Last Day of School

What an amazing closing to the year today. I had so many people go out of their way to say so many kind words to me after school today. Thank you again. It did my heart good to hear such kindness. I also wanted to thank everyone for their generous class gift! I am looking forward to using the Target gift card over the summer. May God continue to bless all of your families. Until then have a wonderful summer and see you in September.

Attached are a few images from the blessing that Father Nario said to the second graders  along with our last group image of second grade!!

The letter R. Race to finish. Today we focused on Legos. We raced to finish different tasks with Legos.

In the first race they had to pick up Legos with clothes pins and drop them in a bag. They had 2 minutes to complete the task.

In the second race one of the partners was blind folded while the other partner talked them through where the Legos were and where to place them. This was a great way to brush up on their communication sklls.

In the third race they had to build Legos and balance them on a tongue depressor.

In the fourth race the kiddos needed to build a tower only using one hand. The partners who built the tallest tower won.

In the fifth and final challenge they needed to write out the word CELEBRATE with their Legos.

School wide today we had a lip sync contest. The kids had a lot of fun participating and watching others preform. Enjoy the attached pictures.

Tomorrow, please have your kids wear their gym uniform. It is water balloon day!

Finally, drinking it of course was the best of all!

It was called Seriously, Snow White Was So Forgetful.  We also read The Three Little Pigs. Then we created a Wicked Witch Poison Apple. The kiddos used an apple that had the core removed. Then, they added baking soda and vinegar! It was fun getting to see them light up! Next, we used STEM to create a home that would not get blown down by the woof! The kiddos used tooth picks and mini marshmallows to create a "safe" home for our pig.

Finally, we had our spelling bee. Julia was the winner in second grade! Congratulations to all the participates for their great effort! Please see all attached pictures from today. Enjoy!

Today's Happenings

Today started our Celebration count down for the year. We popped the first balloon and it reviled to us that we would be studying clouds. We learned about four different types. Stratus, Cirrus, Cumulus, and Cumulonimbus. The students also listened to the book Claudette all about a cloud. The students then wrote the definitions on the different kinds of clouds. They also had the opportunity to tear a few pieces of cotton apart to make them look like different kinds of clouds. Then we went on a walking field trip outside to use our cloud view finders to see the clouds. There were a lot! Finally the students wrote their own story about a cloud and use some cotton candy to inspire their writing!

This afternoon we enjoyed Bingo with the entire school. We had three winners in our class! Tomorrow there is a spelling bee for the kids. The spelling bee list was sent home today to look over.

Attached are pictures of today's events. Enjoy!
