Watermelon Day

Today we celebrated Watermelon Day! Watermelon Day is actually August 3rd, but since we aren't in school that day, we celebrated today. For the past 2 weeks we have been learning adjectives. The children had to describe watermelon using "exciting" adjectives and then did a watermelon craft. At the end of the day, we went outside with 2-S and enjoyed fresh watermelon.

World Travelers!

Thursday was a very exciting day in class! First, we "traveled" to China to celebrate Chinese New Year. We talked about how 2015 is the year of the goat, we watched videos of the dragon dance on youtube, we learned how to write numbers in Chinese from 1-12, and we made Chinese lanterns. Later in the afternoon, we "traveled" to New Orleans, Louisiana to celebrate Mardi Gras, or as we learned another name, Fat Tuesday. We talked about the meaning of that day and what it represents. We made decorative Mardi Gras masks which are displayed in the hallway.

Welcome Snowflake!

I am sure by now you have all heard that Santa sent us an Elf on the Shelf to spend the month of December in our classroom. The children named her "Snowflake" and they absolutley love her! She spends her days watching the students' behavior so she can report back to Santa if they were naughty or nice. Each morning we find her in a new spot and she always leaves us a letter and sometimes a surprise. Since our behavior was good on Wednesday and Thursday, she left us The Elf on the Shelf Tradition movie, Chocolate Chip cookies, and Oreo cookies on Friday.
